Micro-Needling

A minimally invasive way to rejuvenate the skin

Through the Eclipse Medical MicroPen® device, micro-needling rejuvenates the skin in a way that can effectively treat pigmentation marks on the face, facial pores, acne scars, and fine lines and wrinkles. It’s also been shown to help improve pattern hair loss and early stage alopecia areata. When treated in the early stages of the disease, it can stimulate hair growth as well as the faster regrowth of hair. It can be used off the face to help minimize and improve the appearance of stretch marks.

What are the main benefits of micro-needling?
Micro-needling is used to give patients a younger, smoother look. The procedure can effectively treat aging skin, sun damage, and skin problems that include hyper-pigmentation, dark spots, acne scarring, stretch marks, and alopecic disorders such as early male and female pattern hair loss.

What does the procedure involve?
Topic anesthetic is applied for 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the procedure. Next, the Eclipse MicroPen presses against your skin while being moved across the treatment area, continually gliding and moving until the whole area has been treated. A thin layer of solution hyaluronic acid and/or protein-rich plasma is applied after each pass.  Each procedure takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on how big the treatment area is. The treatment is usually done in a series of three treatments spaced four weeks apart.  After this, maintenance treatments to maintain improvement.

How does micro-needling work?
Micro-needling uses tiny needles to create small punctures in the top layer of the skin. As these punctures occur, they encourage the body to start making new collagen and elastin, effectively smoothing and adding a more youthful look to the area. Micro-needling can be used on the face or other parts of the body. When used in combination with hyaluronic acid or protein-rich plasma, the effect of the micro-needling can be amplified.

Recent research has also shown improvement in alopecia disorders because it can increase vascularity, which stimulates hair growth in addition to the improvements for treating aging skin.

Will the treatment hurt?
A micro-needling treatment feels most similar to having the skin rubbed lightly with sandpaper. While some parts of the body are more sensitive than others, the micro-needling pen moves quickly so as to minimize discomfort. A post-treatment hydrating gel helps make treatment more comfortable.

What can I expect afterwards?
Immediately after treatment, your skin will probably be red, but many patients also see an immediate glow. Redness typically fades within two to four days—or within 24 hours for some people. Skin improvements continue to develop over days and weeks, up until six months after a series of treatments.
